Dr Aaron Lim

Dr Aaron Lim is a general surgeon with subspecialty interests in reflux, bariatric (weight loss) surgery and lifestyle medicine. He grew up and trained in Queensland, first completing a Bachelor of Pharmacy in 2008 before graduating from medicine in 2013 with honours at the University of Queensland.

Having had a passion for general surgery since medical school, Dr Lim completed his training in General Surgery in 2020 having spent four years across various hospitals in Queensland. In 2021, he completed further sub-specialist training in oesophagogastric and bariatric surgery at the Gold Coast University Hospital and Pindara Private Hospital.

Dr Lim chose to specialise in bariatric surgery because of the life-changing impact of the operations performed, and because of the passionate mentors, surgeons, and allied health professionals who inspired him to enter the field. He believes a good surgeon needs collaboration, teamwork, and genuine patient-centred communication as much as technical skill.

Dr Lim enjoys the complexity of the pathology he treats and the challenges that come with it. He values the autonomy of surgical practice while also working within a team of like-minded professionals to provide care for his patients.

Dr Lim is passionate about training the next generation of doctors and is actively involved in the teaching of surgical trainees, junior medical staff, and medical students from the University of Queensland. He is currently the intern supervisor for surgery at Redland Hospital. After years away, he feels privileged to return to Brisbane to contribute to the healthcare of the community he grew up in.
