What Is It?

A Temporary Tool for Lasting Change

A gastric balloon is a temporary, medical weight loss tool designed to bridge the gap between lifestyle changes and invasive surgery.

By taking up space in your stomach, the balloon helps you feel full on smaller portions and slows digestion, while our team helps you build habits that support long-term weight management. The balloon is removed (or passes naturally) after 4 to 12 months, leaving your body unchanged.

FAQ

Common Questions

Which gastric balloon is right for me?

This depends on your lifestyle, weight loss goals, and tolerance for the insertion procedure. The Allurion is swallowable, with no procedure required. Orbera is a 6-month option. Spatz3 can stay in place for up to 12 months and is adjustable. Dr Lim will guide you to the best fit at your consultation.

How much weight will I lose?

Results vary by balloon type, from person to person, and with commitment to the lifestyle program. Dr Lim will discuss a realistic goal with you at your consultation.

Is the gastric balloon covered by Medicare or private health insurance?

Medicare does not cover gastric balloons, and private health funds do not provide rebates for any balloon type: Allurion, BIB/Orbera, and Spatz3 are all self-funded. We're happy to provide a full cost breakdown at your consultation.

Can I return to normal activities straight away?

Most patients return to normal activities within 1–3 days. The first week can involve nausea or discomfort as your body adjusts. Your care team will provide medication and guidance to manage this period comfortably.
